Duke male

2012-04-09

Adoption Pending!

CongRATs to the Johnson family!

Location: Oregon

Duke is a stunning 2 ˝ year old Giant Decker Rat Terrier. He is up to 35 pounds now and is still a little on the thin side. Duke’s foster mom did some research and Duke probably comes from the original Milton Decker hunting bloodlines, so this is a very well bred dog. But this is also a hunter with a high prey drive. He will go after cats, small game, pocket pets and rabbits. He is fast and powerful. Duke can leap a six foot privacy fence and climb a cyclone fence. He can climb trees, too. The other side of Duke is a wonderfully well mannered house pet. Duke is house broken, doesn’t mark, won’t damage anything in the house and has nice manners. He gets along well with all of the other dogs in the household, including a 6 pound Hairless that steals his bed. Duke is learning to be a lap dog, and although he's a little big for that, he manages to get all of his body parts on his fostermom’s lap. He's an affectionate cuddle bum. Duke is a dream to train. He uses a doggy door, knows “sit”, “come”, and “stay”. He is learning “stay close”, and really wants to please his fostermom. If Duke loves you he will do anything for you. Duke would make a superb agility dog. He totally concentrates on his trainer and responds immediately to commands. He loves being trained and his adopter should consider taking him to training classes, where he will excel. Duke is aloof but not unfriendly with strangers. He is aloof with children that he doesn’t know, but he would never hurt them. He walks well on a leash and has no lease aggression. He is very good in the car and doesn’t bark at people who come close to the car. He is also learning “No Bark” when he patrols the back fence. He will probably be a one family dog and become extremely loyal to his people. Duke goes to the doggy park every day. He is independent and prefers to stay close to his fostermom, but he does let other dogs chase him and sometimes he plays with them. His speed is amazing, and even a Ridgeback couldnt catch him. He is a very good boy there until an aggressive dog challenges him. If challenged, Duke won’t back off and he is fearless, so his fostermom keeps him away from aggressive dogs. Duke never initiantes conflict. He is a “Live and Let Live” kind of guy until another dog pushes him. He is protective of his home and his person, but isn’t aggressive about it. Duke is a LOT of dog. If you are serious about this superb animal, please do your homework on Giant Decker Rat Terriers as he is a perfect example. Giant Deckers like Duke are super-smart, fearless and powerful. Duke is a tremendous dog if someone is looking for this kind of Rat Terrier. For more photos of Duke please click here.

Rocko male

2010-09-12

Location: Oregon

Seniors for Seniors Candidate
Rocko is a precious older guy. He is probably around 11 or 12 years old, and he does show some "wear and tear". His hind legs tremble a little, especially if he's anxious, and he is afraid that he is going to get dumped again. Rocko ran out of time at the humane society where he had been dumped for at least the second time in his life. The people who turned him in said that he was dumped on them, so Rocko has good reason to worry. Now that Rocko has settled in at his fostermom’s home, he is starting to relax and has become a wonderful companion. Rocko follows his fostermom everywhere, and sleeps cuddled up next to her in bed. It won’t work to try and train this dog to not sleep on the bed; he will cry all night, so Rocko should go to someone who wants him to stay close to them. His fostermom can even garden outside and Rocko will never leave her side. He is also an accomplished lap dog, but if you absolutely cannot have him on your lap, he will sit quietly beside you until you can. Rocko has gotten used to his fostermom leaving him for the day for her new job, so he can function alone for awhile. He is perfectly house broken and uses the doggy door to go outside. He is not destructive in any way, and he gets along well with other dogs and even cats. Rocko was well trained at one time, and he knows basic obedience commands. He has very nice manners. Rocko likes kids if they are respectful of him, but he would be most content in a quieter home without a lot of confusion and chaos. Rocko was suffering from flea allergies when we got him, so he needs to be kept on flea prevention. He is in very good shape now. Rocko is a wonderfully sweet and gentle dog who just wants to be with you. He is very easy to live with and a joy to have around!
