Jimmy male

2011-08-27

Location: North Carolina

Seniors for Seniors Candidate
Jimmy is what you'd call a real character. Rescued from a dark and dingy high kill 'animal care facility' within a very short time of being led to the gassing box the first thing he did upon being sprung was back kick the death dust from his feet. Jimmy has a dew claw on both hind legs and with these and the way his legs bow slightly when he walks he gives the rear view appearance of an ol' cow poke. The jingle of the tags on his collar provides just the right sound for the 'spurs' on his feet, and so his foster mom has taken to sometimes calling him "Cowboy Jim". This little dude is a 13 year young Jack/Rat (Jack Russell/ Rat Terrier mix) weighing only 8.5 pounds and in excellent health. He doesn't have a problem with other dogs and more often than not will join in on a game of tug of war or chase, but he also enjoys time alone meandering the yard or napping in the sun. He's learning about horses and how, like a good cowboy, not to bark at them, and he's fine around cats as long as they don't run from him... otherwise it's time for a round-up. As for people; He's friendly toward everyone outside his domain but is a little cautious when meeting someone for the first time. This is easily handled by reminding him that it's you in charge, not him. And as for children; He's actually very affectionate with little people 5 yrs & older. Children younger than 5 tend to make him a tad nervous. Jimmy is house, leash, and crate trained.... doesn't suffer from any phobias (i.e. separation anxiety), fear of thunderstorms, etc. And, he's not a digger, a climber, or an excessive barker. All in all he's a wonderful little wrangler with a big heart and a whole lot of appreciation for this second chance at life. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard, but would probably be okay in an apartment as well... so long as he's given daily walks and access to fresh air and sunshine. Poco Bill male

2011-01-16

Location: Kansas

Poco Bill is a wild bandito, with relatives from South of the Border. He is a lot of little Terrier in a 7 pound package, with a little Chihuahua thrown in for spice. And he does have spice! Bill can be a sassy little fellow, and he doesn't care how big the other dog is - he thinks he is bigger. For this reason Little Bill would do best as an only dog or with a very mellow, non-dominant dog. Bill LOVES to play, and stuffed (or unstuffed) toys are fascinating to him. He will bite, chew, chase and shake the stuffing-free squirrel, and he is not opposed to beating up a fully stuffed Santa. Bill also enjoys chasing the other dogs (mostly giving them attitude), but deprived of dog company he will play happily by himself or chew on a rawhide. Poco Bill has been very good about keeping his crate clean, and he is good about using the dog door - even though he was scared of it at first. He has had an issue with lifting his leg inappropriately; having come to rescue as an intact dog who is probably 4-5 years old, he had time to learn some bad habits. But Bill is working on improving these, though his fostermom has to be FAST, because he is. He is truly a character, and if you've had a little experience with dogs this one could be a great companion. Since he's a little fiesty, he is not recommended for small children. Bill is not really aggressive to cats, but could drive them crazy trying to boss them around.

Mia-Shel female

2011-11-24

Location: Virginia

My name is Mia. After 6 years of living with my family in WV, they decided I was too much trouble and took me to this place where dogs just disappear. A lady came to see who wanted to help and looked at me. She said I was cute with my underbite. Now I'm in a foster home and I can’t wait to have a home of my own. I love to chase a ball, play tug of war, and best of all - I love to tear the insides out of stuffed animals. I need someone who understands the Terrier breed. I get along with all of the other dogs in my foster home, but I won’t back down if confronted - or if someone tries to take my toy. I can’t be around cats, as I would love to be able to catch those tempting things and shake 'em good! I would love another dog as my playmate, though. I can be in a crate for about 6 hours without going outside, and I sleep under the covers at night, with all my foster-pals.

Vika female

2011-11-05

Adoption Pending!

CongRATs to the Holmes family!

Location: Oklahoma

Vika was rescued from a puppymill in central Texas. She spent several years as a breeder, but before that she was someone's pet. Unfortunately, Vika remembers more of her life as a caged breeder than as a much-loved companion. She is working to remember how to be a house pet, and is making slow progress; walking on a leash and pottying outside are her main issues. Vika is 7 years old, and weighs just over 10 pounds; she is a Teddy (short legs) Rat Terrier. She has not been around children since coming into rescue, but it is her foster family's opinion that she should not go to a home with young children (under 10). Vika sleeps in her crate at night, and keeps it clean and dry. To see more pix of this pretty little girl please click here.

Badger male

2007-10-28

Location: Kansas

Seniors for Seniors Candidate
One look at Badger's face will tell you this guy is just overflowing with personality. There may be a little Boston Terrier in his lineage, as he has a very short "corkscrew" tail, undershot jaw, and black and white coloring. His undershot jaw gives him a bit of a pugnacious look and his character sometimes matches. He had been surrendered because no one had time for him anymore and he was tied up in the back yard all alone. Badger gets along fine with 12 out of 13 foster Rat Terrier "siblings" but took a dislike to one, whom he is determined to whoop every time he gets in the same room. Because of this chance of aggression if the personalities clash, Badger needs to be an only dog or with a non-dominant female. He is 7 years old and around 15 very solid pounds. He is a charming fellow -- likes people and is fine with children but untrustworthy around small animals, including cats. Badger will sleep quietly in a crate but will complain if left in the crate while everyone else is active. He is housebroken, using a dog door reliably. Despite his rather "tough guy" appearance, Badger's personality will win you over quickly when you met him.
